Blanket Ban On Indoor Smoking From October 2:
With the Union health ministry enforcing the 'workplace smoke-free policy', a total ban on indoor smoking is going to be put in place in India from October 2 onwards. This means that the private offices and other establishments cannot escape the ban by taking refuge in special rooms meant for smoking. In other words, those who cannot resist the urge to have a puff they will have to come out to the streets.
Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, declared, 'From October 2, the government would introduce the no-smoking policy in all indoor establishments.' It has been sometime now that Ramadoss has been vehemently pushing for the ban on tobacco and tobacco products. The coming into effect of the workplace smoke-free policy has been made to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
The Union health minister was quick to point out that this ban will apply to all companies, plus restaurants, cafes, pubs and discotheques. As per this Act, hotels with more than 30 seats can create a separate enclosure for smoking purpose, with good ventilation arrangement. Those found flouting the ban will be charged Rs 200 initially. The amount will be hiked to Rs 1000 for individuals and Rs 5,000 for organizations.
I have been contemplating about quitting on smoking (I Know, I know). This time it was serious because of my son grasping any action I do.
I pity all the other unprepared active smokers (Like my dad) who have been smoking for ages. Just imagining how they are going to be reacting to this rule being implemented.
