Indian ISVs developing software for niche markets

There are more and more Software companies emerging into the niche sector of Airlines, Freight, Oil & Logistics Management sphere.

ISVs like Kale Consultants, IBS Software etc are a few to name. IBS Software Services, a provider of information technology (IT) solutions to the travel, transportation and logistics industry, has signed an agreement with major players like KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Oman Air for providing a crew management solution.

Even the Indian railways are in the process of automating their crew management. The Indian Railways has nearly 100,000 guards and drivers for performing operations round the clock. The Centre for Railways Information System (CRIS) rolled out the software system in December 2007.

Expected to reach $2 billion by 2008, the online travel industry in India is attracting a number of national and international players - at less than 5% of the total industry, the potential seems enormous.
